1″ Barrel Airstones

Basic 1″ barrel airstone to aerate your aquarium. Designed to be connected to an external air pump via an air line, this product will enable you to add aeration to your aquarium. The additional oxygen will be beneficial to the livestock, as well as the beneficial bacteria responsible for breaking down waste whilst also providing vital surface movement that allows the exchange of gases and prevents your aquarium from becoming stagnant.

Aeration is particularly important during the hotter summer months as higher temperatures reduce the oxygen levels in the water column. Many fish can’t tolerate such low oxygen levels and will be observed near the surface of the water in an attempt to breathe. The simple installation of an air pump will help your fish get through those tricky months and remain in top condition.

Air stones naturally break down over time and become crumbly or clogged. They will need replacing from time to time to keep them working efficiently.

Do fish need an airstone?

Not always. Many aquariums receive adequate oxygenation from filter movement alone. However, airstones can significantly improve gas exchange and are particularly useful in heavily stocked aquariums, warm weather, breeding tanks and aquariums with low surface movement.

Why has my air stone stopped bubbling?

Airstones naturally become blocked by mineral deposits, algae and organic waste over time. Reduced bubble production is usually a sign that the airstone requires cleaning or replacement.
