Description

TMC Reef Salt for Marine Aquariums

TMC Reef Salt is a premium marine salt mix designed to create and maintain stable water conditions in reef aquariums, fish-only marine systems and mixed reef setups. Formulated to replicate the chemistry of natural tropical seawater, it contains the essential major and trace elements required by marine fish, corals and other invertebrates.

Whether you’re setting up a brand-new marine aquarium or carrying out routine water changes, Reef Salt provides a reliable and consistent way to maintain healthy water parameters. The balanced formulation helps support coral growth, fish health and long-term aquarium stability by replenishing important elements that are gradually consumed within the aquarium.

It’s also the same trusted salt mix that we use in our own marine fish house, where consistency and water quality are essential for the health and wellbeing of our livestock.

Why Use Reef Salt?

Marine aquariums require more than just saltwater. Corals, invertebrates and biological processes constantly consume important elements such as calcium, magnesium, potassium and carbonate hardness (KH). Regular water changes using a quality reef salt help replace these elements while maintaining stable water chemistry.

Typical Water Parameters
KH: 7–8°dH
Calcium: 420–440mg/l
Magnesium: 1300–1400mg/l
Potassium: 400–420mg/l

These parameters closely match the conditions found in natural tropical reef environments, helping to provide a stable foundation for marine livestock.

Water Changes

Regular partial water changes remain one of the most effective ways to maintain excellent water quality. As a general guide, replacing approximately 10% of the aquarium water each week can help replenish essential trace elements while reducing the accumulation of waste products and dissolved organics.

Mixing Instructions

To achieve a salinity of approximately 32–35ppt, dissolve 35ml (approximately 37–40g) of Reef Salt per litre of water while providing continuous circulation. Once fully dissolved, the saltwater is ready for use. For best results, confirm salinity using a refractometer and aim for a specific gravity of 1.025–1.027 at 25°C.

Why Is Marine Salt Important?

Marine aquarium salt does far more than simply make water salty. A quality reef salt mix contains essential elements such as calcium, magnesium, potassium and trace minerals that are required by marine fish, corals and other invertebrates. These elements are gradually depleted over time and need to be replenished through regular water changes.

Who Is TMC Reef Salt Suitable For?

TMC Reef Salt is suitable for a wide range of marine aquarium setups, including fish-only systems, mixed reefs and many coral aquariums. It provides a balanced blend of major and minor elements designed to help maintain stable water conditions and support healthy marine livestock.

Why Are Water Changes Important In Marine Aquariums?

Regular water changes help remove dissolved waste products while replacing important minerals and trace elements that are consumed within the aquarium. Consistent water changes are one of the simplest and most effective ways to maintain long-term water quality and support healthy fish and corals.
