Gamma Krill Pacifica 250g

Krill Pacifica is one of the most nutritionally dense frozen foods available to aquarium fish keepers. Naturally rich in protein, amino acids and Omega-3 fatty acids, krill is widely used to support growth, colouration and overall condition in both freshwater and marine species. Krill Pacifica is a popular choice of food for keeper of larger marine and freshwater species of fish, as well as turtles. Krill is a larger sized species of shrimp that holds several unique properties highly desired in the aquarium hobby. Krill has natural levels of astaxanthin, a carotenoid pigment that encourages pink and red pigmentation, particularly in fish. It is naturally rich in protein, which supports the health and condition of fish, whilst also carrying a unique and noticeable “seafood” kind of smell that can draw in fish that may otherwise miss the dinner bell.

Though it’s an excellent frozen food, krill pacifica is rather large and some smaller species of rasboras and tetras may not be able to eat it. However, larger species of puffers, triggers, lionfish, cichlids and even goldfish will thoroughly enjoy these tasty shrimps.

As part of a balanced diet, frozen krill pacifica can help add variety while encouraging natural hunting and feeding behaviours.

Frequently Asked Questions

What fish can eat Gamma Frozen Krill Pacifica?

Krill Pacifica is suited better to larger fish, due to its slightly larger size. We would recommend it for fish of at least 6cm in length as they are most likely to have mouths large enough to eat this food. Some suckermouth catfish will enjoy krill, but keep in mind the natural diet of the species you’re feeding. Largely herbivorous species like tangs and malawi cichlids will enjoy the odd treat of krill, but won’t necessarily get much nutritional value out of it as their digestive systems are not designed for such high protein content.

Is Krill Pacifica a complete food for fish?

Krill Pacifica are great, but fish require a more varied diet. All fish are omnivorous to some extent, so they need fibre and other key nutrients to remain healthy. In nature, many carnivorous species would receive these nutrients via their prey and what the prey had eaten. This is something that reptile keepers in particular try to achieve through “gut loading”, which is the practice of feeding quality food to insects that are intended to be offered as food. For fish, it’s a lot more simple. Use krill pacifica and other frozen food as part of a varied diet with flakes, pellets and other nutrient rich fish foods that are fortified with the vitamins and nutrients normal fish require.

How often should I feed Gamma krill pacifica?

Most aquarists feed krill pacifica and other frozen foods 2-3 times per week. as a treat or to supplement the diet of their fish. The natural diet of your fish should be taken into account and frequency reduced for fish that don’t necessarily eat a lot of meat in the wild.

Is frozen food better than live?

Each have their own merits, but frozen food tend to have more benefits than live. It does work out cheaper to buy a block of frozen krill pacifica than to buy several individual bags that are mostly just water. Frozen foods are gamma irradiated and will not carry pathogens, parasites and unwanted hitchhikers, whilst live foods do have a small risk, especially if you tip the whole bag in instead of discarding the excess water.

Is krill pacifica good for breeding fish?

Absolutely. One of the simplest things fishkeepers can do to encourage breeding is to increase the amount of high protein frozen foods they offer. This boost of protein and fats will bring most fish into breeding condition and even encourage better colouration as a result.

Is Krill Pacifica better than Brineshrimp?

Neither is necessarily better, but krill is more nutritious, higher in protein and contains astaxanthin. However, brineshrimp are smaller and more widely accepted by all community fish.

Did you know? Many large south american cichlids like Oscars enjoy a largely carnivorous diet, but they are in fact omnivores. These fish need a reasonable amount of veggies and they actually enjoy it!
