Description
Betta Choice Catfish Pellets
Betta Choice Catfish Pellets are a complete, high-protein sinking food developed for catfish and other bottom-feeding aquarium fish. Designed to reach the substrate quickly, these nutritious pellets provide a convenient way to ensure your bottom dwellers receive their share of food without having to compete with fish feeding at the surface.
Containing 47% protein, the formula provides valuable nutrition to support healthy growth, natural colour and everyday vitality. The pellets soften shortly after entering the water, making them easier for fish to consume while encouraging their natural feeding behaviour.
Suitable for a wide range of popular aquarium catfish, including Corydoras, Synodontis and many members of the Pimelodidae family, this versatile food is an excellent addition to a regular feeding routine.
Why Choose Betta Choice Catfish Pellets?
Unlike floating flakes and pellets, which are often eaten before they reach the aquarium floor, these fast-sinking pellets deliver food directly to the areas where bottom-feeding fish naturally forage.
Each pellet measures approximately 3–4mm, making it particularly useful for medium-sized and larger catfish. Smaller species can also feed on the pellets as they soften, although portions should always be appropriate for the size of the fish.
The formula combines fishmeal, plant-based ingredients, fish oil, vitamins and minerals to provide balanced daily nutrition.
With a protein content of 47% and a fat content of 14%, it is especially useful for omnivorous and carnivorous catfish that benefit from a protein-rich diet.
Betta Choice Catfish Pellets for Bottom Feeders
Different catfish have different feeding habits, but many spend much of their time searching the aquarium floor for suitable food.
These sinking pellets are particularly well suited to:
- Corydoras – peaceful, sociable catfish that naturally forage across the substrate.
- Synodontis – active bottom feeders that readily accept sinking prepared foods.
- Pimelodid Catfish – suitable species that require a nutritious, protein-rich diet.
- Other Omnivorous Catfish – particularly species that feed primarily on or near the aquarium floor.
For predominantly herbivorous species, such as many grazing Loricariidae, we recommend offering suitable algae-based foods and vegetable matter alongside or instead of high-protein pellets, according to their individual dietary requirements.
Feeding Betta Choice Catfish Pellets
Offer a small quantity once or twice daily as part of a suitable feeding routine, adjusting the amount according to the number, size and appetite of your fish.
The manufacturer recommends feeding up to two or three times daily, offering only what the fish can consume within a few minutes.
Because the pellets sink quickly, they can be placed near sheltered areas where shy catfish are more comfortable feeding.
In busy community aquariums, it may be helpful to feed bottom dwellers shortly before the aquarium lights are switched off, particularly if faster-moving fish regularly consume their food.
Remove any uneaten food after approximately five minutes to help maintain good water quality. Avoid overfeeding, as excess food can break down in the substrate and contribute to poor aquarium conditions.
A Nutritious Addition to a Varied Diet
Although these pellets provide complete nutrition, offering variety is still beneficial for many aquarium catfish.
Depending on the species, their diet can be supplemented with suitable frozen or live foods such as bloodworm, brineshrimp and mysis shrimp, alongside vegetable-based foods where appropriate.
Providing a varied diet helps accommodate the different nutritional needs and natural feeding preferences of the fish in your aquarium.
