Oase ProfiClear Premium XL EGC Pond Drum Filter

The Oase ProfiClear Premium XL EGC Pond Filter is a professional self-cleaning drum filter for large ponds and heavily stocked koi ponds. Available in gravity-fed and pump-fed versions, it provides high-flow mechanical filtration while automatically removing suspended solid waste from the pond water.

Designed as the mechanical stage of Oase’s modular ProfiClear Premium XL filtration system, it can form the basis of a complete koi pond filtration system, with additional biological filtration and discharge modules added according to the requirements of the pond.

Oase rates the ProfiClear Premium XL system for natural and swimming ponds up to 530,000 litres and koi ponds up to 100,000 litres, although actual filter requirements depend on fish stocking, feeding rates and the complete filtration configuration.

ProfiClear Premium XL Drum Filter for Large Koi Ponds

The ProfiClear Premium XL is designed for pond keepers who need considerably more capacity than a conventional box or pressure filter can provide.

At the heart of the system is a stainless steel pond drum filter which mechanically separates solid waste from the incoming pond water. Fine 60-micron screens capture suspended debris before it reaches the biological stages of the filter.

Rather than allowing this material to accumulate inside foam or other mechanical media, the drum automatically cleans itself and discharges the collected waste.

This makes the ProfiClear particularly suitable as a koi pond filter, where large fish populations and substantial feeding can create considerable quantities of solid waste.

Self-Cleaning Pond Drum Filter

The ProfiClear Premium XL uses an automated cleaning system to keep its drum screens clear.

As debris accumulates and water flow through the screens becomes restricted, the filter initiates a cleaning cycle. The drum rotates while high-pressure rinse nozzles wash the collected material into the waste channel for discharge.

The result is a self-cleaning pond filter that can maintain mechanical filtration without the regular manual cleaning associated with traditional foam-based pond filters.

The XL drum incorporates 16 sieve elements, providing approximately 6,900cm² of screening surface.

Gravity-Fed Koi Pond Filter

The Gravity Fed ProfiClear Premium XL is designed for installations where water travels from the pond to the filter through bottom drains and/or skimmers.

This arrangement is particularly popular on purpose-built koi ponds because waste can travel directly from the pond into the mechanical filter before passing through the remaining filtration stages.

The gravity-fed XL can handle flow rates of up to 66,000 litres per hour and provides seven DN110 inlet connections, giving considerable flexibility when plumbing multiple bottom drains and skimmer lines. Oase confirms the 66,000 LPH capacity for the gravity-fed XL.

Pump-Fed Pond Drum Filter

Where a gravity-fed installation isn’t practical, the Pump Fed ProfiClear Premium XL allows water to be supplied to the drum filter by a suitable pond pump.

This makes the ProfiClear XL accessible for existing ponds where installing bottom drains or completely rebuilding the filtration layout isn’t realistic.

The pump-fed version can handle flow rates of up to 50,000 litres per hour and incorporates an emergency overflow to help maintain safe operation.

Large Pond Filter with Modular Biological Filtration

The ProfiClear Premium XL isn’t simply a standalone mechanical filter. It’s part of a modular pond filtration system, allowing the biological capacity and final system layout to be matched to the pond.

After mechanical filtration by the drum, water can pass through compatible ProfiClear Premium XL Moving Bed modules, where biological filter media provides a large surface area for the bacteria responsible for processing dissolved fish waste.

Oase’s XL Moving Bed module uses a fluidised biological filtration process and is supplied with PondPads media.

Additional oase modules can be incorporated where greater biological capacity is required, making the system particularly useful for large or heavily stocked koi ponds where filtration requirements may increase over time.

Although particularly well suited to koi filtration, the ProfiClear Premium XL can also be used on other large water systems requiring high-flow mechanical filtration.

The ProfiClear Premium XL is compatible with the Oase Control system, allowing operating information and filter functions to be integrated into Oase’s connected pond-management system.

This provides additional monitoring and control options for larger installations where oase pumps, filtration and other compatible Oase equipment are being managed together.

Choosing the Right ProfiClear Premium XL

For a new purpose-built koi pond, a gravity-fed drum filter system will often provide the most flexible high-flow installation, particularly where bottom drains and skimmers can be incorporated during construction.

The pump-fed model provides an alternative for ponds where gravity filtration isn’t practical or where an existing pond is being upgraded without major structural work.

With a filter of this capacity, the correct choice should be based on more than pond volume alone. Fish stock, expected adult koi size, feeding levels, required turnover, pump performance and biological filtration capacity should all be considered when designing the complete system.
