Frozen Cockle in Shell 500g is a natural whole shellfish food for larger marine and freshwater fish, particularly species that benefit from tackling hard-shelled foods as part of their normal feeding routine.

The whole cockles are blast frozen for freshness and provide a substantial, naturally textured food for predators including puffers and triggerfish. They are also readily accepted by a variety of other larger marine fish.

Unlike chopped cockle, the shell remains intact. This makes the food particularly valuable for pufferfish, whose continuously growing teeth need regular wear from hard foods.

Offering appropriately sized cockles gives puffers the opportunity to bite and break into the shell to reach the meat inside, providing both food and useful feeding enrichment. Regular hard-shelled foods are widely recommended as part of pufferfish husbandry.

Ideal for Larger Predatory Fish

Cockle in shell is particularly well suited to larger marine predators including puffers and triggers. Larger freshwater puffers such as Fahaka puffers can also tackle whole cockles as part of a varied diet.

For fish unable to break the shell themselves, cockles can be partially opened before feeding where appropriate.

Feeding

Defrost the required number of cockles before feeding and offer an amount appropriate to the size and number of fish.

Remove uneaten cockle meat and discarded shells after feeding to prevent them accumulating in the aquarium and affecting water quality.

Keep frozen until required and do not refreeze once fully defrosted.
