Description
Frozen Cichlid Mix 100g Fish Food
Frozen Cichlid Mix is a carefully balanced blend of fish meat, shellfish, bloodworm, mysis shrimp, gammarus and vegetable matter designed to provide a varied and nutritious diet for cichlids and other larger tropical fish.
Unlike single-ingredient frozen foods, a quality cichlid mix offers a wider range of proteins, fats and nutrients in every feed. This makes it an excellent choice for South American cichlids such as Oscars, Severums, Acara, Geophagus and Angelfish, as well as many larger community fish that benefit from a more diverse diet.
The inclusion of both animal and plant-based ingredients helps replicate the varied feeding habits seen in many cichlid species in the wild. Regular feeding can help support healthy growth, vibrant colouration, breeding condition and overall fish health when used as part of a balanced feeding programme.

Why feed a frozen cichlid mix?
Many cichlids are opportunistic feeders in the wild and consume insects, crustaceans, plant matter and small aquatic organisms. A mixed frozen food helps replicate this dietary variety and can provide a broader range of nutrients than feeding a single frozen food alone
Is Frozen Cichlid Mix better than feeding one type of frozen food?
Absolutely. Because it’s a variety of different invertebrates, as well as some greenery, this provides a much broader range of nutrients. Different foods have different key benefits, so offering a little bit of everything covers a better ground. What makes this food especially good is the vegetable matter included. This is an important part of the diet of most species of fish that is often overlooked, especially by cichlid keepers. If you want your Cichlids to grow big and strong, they have to eat their veggies!
Is this suitable for African Cichlids?
While many African Cichlids will readily accept this food, it should only be offered occasionally as a treat. Many Malawis and Tanganyikans are herbivores and have a digestive system that is not designed to handle large amounts of protein on a consistent basis. Best to double check the specific species you have and base your judgement on that.
How often should I feed frozen cichlid mix?
Most fish keepers will offer frozen food 2-3 times a week as part of a healthy, balanced diet. Good quality pellets intended for the species you keep should make up the lion’s share of their diet as these foods are fortified with additional vitamins and minerals. We recommend Hikari Cichlid Gold for most cichlids as it has a particularly high protein level and comes in both sinking and floating, as well as several pellet sizes. This means you can really cater exactly to your fish’s size, nutritional needs and feeding habit.
Is this a complete food?
Though it’s a lot closer than frozen foods that are a single type of organism, we still recommend that this food is treated as supplementary or as a treat. The main part of your fish’s diet should be high quality dry foods.
Feeding Guide: Feed your fish 1 to 2 times a day only as much as they will consume in a few minutes. Any uneaten food must be removed after the fish have finished feeding, before it has a chance to break down into harmful ammonia that could lead to water potential quality issues that would be detrimental to the wellbeing of your fish and other livestock.

Did you know? Did you know that Oscars like Blueberries? That’s right! Many cichlids enjoy a bit of fruit in their diet and would happily eat it in the wild also. You can experiment with melon, peas, oranges, spinach and many other foods, but make sure you wash them first!
