The Rosefire is a selectively bred Halfmoon variety admired for its rich metallic tones, elaborate tail and confident personality. Unlike more mainstream varieties of Betta, these strains typically have a crisp white body with a contrasting colour on the fins.

Halfmoon Betta Aquarium Set Up

Male Bettas thrive in warm, well-maintained aquariums with gentle water movement and plenty of cover. Live plants, floating plants and natural décor such as bogwood help recreate the calm waters they inhabit naturally while also providing places to rest between bursts of activity. It is important to ensure that there are no jagged or pointy surfaces in the aquarium as the halfmoon’s elaborate fins get damaged easily by these.

Although Bettas can survive in very small containers, they truly flourish in a properly filtered, heated aquarium where stable water conditions can be maintained. A secure lid is also recommended, as Bettas are capable jumpers. Betta are labyrinth fish and can breather atmospheric air. This also means that they need to be able to access the surface of the water and a small gap should be left between the water line and the lid.

Betta are intelligent fish with lots of personality. Many will quickly learn to recognise their owner and will often greet them at the front of the tank when it’s feeding time.

As this is a male Betta, it should never be housed with another male as this will certainly lead to fighting, which will continue until there’s only one. It is also not recommended that he is kept with a female as he can be equally aggressive towards females. Individual temperament varies, so care should be taken when selecting community tank mates. Male Bettas are territorial, while Plakat forms are generally noted for being more active swimmers than long-finned varieties.

Rosefire Halfmoon Betta Tank Mates

If tank mates are being considered, care should be taken when choosing. They should be smaller fish, but not small enough to be eaten by the betta. Blander coloured fish tend to be less noticeable to Betta. Corydoras, smaller rasboras, smaller tetras, otocinclus and snails make excellent tank mates, but nippy fish like Tiger Barbs and Serpae Tetra should be avoided. Other Bettas should also be avoided, alongside guppies and other showy species that may be considered a territorial threat by the Betta.

Feeding

Rosefire Halfmoon Betta are carnivores and should be offered a varied, protein-rich diet. Food can be offered in the form of betta pellets and fresh or frozen fish foods such as mosquito larvae, bloodworm, brineshrimp and daphnia.
