Found in reefs and reef adjacent habitats, the Valentini pufferfish is a small, adaptable fish. Once settled, this fish has a bold temperament as it carries toxins that ensure it isn’t preyed upon, which it advertises in its markings. The mimic filefish also takes advantage of these markings by looking remarkably similar whilst having no toxins itself.

The Valentini will feed on small shrimps and snails in the aquarium and will nip at corals too. When handling these puffers, it is best to herd them into a container and lift the fish with the container full of water rather than lifting them out of the water with a net as it may ingest air. The fish should never be purposely provoked into inflating itself.
