The Teardrop Butterflyfish is an attractive, moderately peaceful fish suitable for fish only aquariums. Like all butterflies, it requires pristine water conditions and plenty of live rock to browse for filamentous algae and other sources of food, so a mature system would be advised. They are best kept singularly and should not be kept with any other butterflies as they will likely squabble over territory,
Some aquarists have kept them successfully with some of the more noxious soft corals, but this isn't a guarantee and stony corals and other sessile invertebrates are likely to be nipped at. Keep them with other fish of similar size and temperament and avoid any large boisterous feeders as they're likely to spook the teardrop and prevent it from eating. Equally, small delicate species may find themselves outcompeted by the teardrop.
