The Spotted Hillstream Loach or Borneo Sucker is a small peaceful fish from Asia. This fish prefers fast currents and highly oxygenated water and the aquarium should reflect that. Adding an oversized filtration system will help increase flow and the addition of a venturi system will help with dissolved oxygen. Smooth rocks and drift wood are a welcome addition as they offer the loach real estate and something to hold on to.

They are a social fish with a hierarchy and need to be in groups of several individuals and though they may sometimes squabble over territory, damage is rarely done. Hillstreams kept alone tend to become stressed and become susceptible to disease.

Hillstreams don't care about other tank mates and don't cause trouble. Choose tank mates that can tolerate the faster flow required by the loaches. White Cloud Mountain Minnows, Harlequin Rasboras, Denison Barbs, Rainbow Shiners and Zebra Danios all make excellent tank mates.

Food should be offered in the form of algae wafers as it is the primary diet of these fish. The also enjoy the addition of protein packed fresh and frozen fish foods such as bloodworm and brine shrimp.
