Repto Terra Sky Terrarium 45 × 45 × 60cm

The Repto Terra Sky 45 × 45 × 60cm is a tall, versatile terrarium designed for creating more substantial reptile, amphibian and tropical setups.

With a 45 × 45cm footprint and 60cm height, there’s plenty of room to build upwards with branches, cork, foliage and planting, making particularly good use of the enclosure for appropriately sized animals that naturally climb or spend time above ground level.

Practical features haven’t been forgotten either. Locking front-opening doors, front ventilation, a waterproof base, removable mesh top and built-in cable management make the Terra Sky considerably easier to set up and maintain.

60cm Height for Climbing Species

The 60cm height is one of the biggest advantages of this Terra Sky.

Rather than concentrating all of the usable space at ground level, the enclosure allows you to create a much more three-dimensional habitat using branches, cork, vines and planting.

This makes it particularly interesting for appropriately sized arboreal and semi-arboreal reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates, although suitability should always be checked against the adult size and environmental requirements of the individual species.

For climbing animals, furnishings should be positioned securely and arranged so the enclosure’s height is genuinely usable rather than simply leaving a large area of empty air.

Locking Front-Opening Doors

The Terra Sky 45 × 45 × 60cm features front-opening double doors, giving easy access for feeding, cleaning, misting and arranging the enclosure. The doors incorporate a locking mechanism to help keep the inhabitant securely inside.

Front access is particularly useful in a planted or heavily furnished setup because routine maintenance can be carried out without removing the lighting or dismantling everything above the enclosure.

And anything that reduces the opportunity for an unexpectedly athletic gecko to make a bid for freedom gets our approval.

Waterproof Base

Unlike an ordinary wooden vivarium, the Terra Sky incorporates a waterproof bottom section.

Together with the enclosure’s ventilation arrangement, Repto specifically designed this feature to make the Terra Sky suitable for creating tropical and paludarium-style environments.

It provides greater flexibility when using moisture-retaining substrates, misting and planting than an enclosure whose base needs to remain completely dry.

A waterproof base doesn’t mean the entire terrarium should automatically be filled with water, however. Any paludarium or aquatic section still needs to be designed around the requirements and safety of the species being kept.

Front Ventilation

Ventilation is positioned beneath the front doors, helping air move through the enclosure rather than relying entirely on the top.

Combined with the mesh roof, this helps provide airflow while retaining the ability to create the warmer, more humid conditions required by many tropical inhabitants.

Temperature and humidity should always be monitored with suitable equipment and adjusted to the needs of the individual species.

Removable Mesh Top

The top of the Terra Sky consists of a strong removable mesh panel.

This provides ventilation while also making it straightforward to position suitable lighting above the enclosure. Removing the top gives additional access when initially decorating or carrying out more substantial maintenance.

The type and strength of UVB, visible lighting and heating required will depend entirely on the animal being housed, so equipment should be selected for the species rather than simply according to the size of the terrarium.

Built-In Cable Management

Once you’ve installed lighting, heating and monitoring equipment, terrariums can very quickly develop an impressive collection of wires.

The Terra Sky incorporates a cable management system at the rear, allowing equipment cables to be routed more neatly through the enclosure.

It’s a small feature, but one you’ll appreciate considerably more once the terrarium is actually set up.

Create a Tropical Display

The combination of a waterproof base and 60cm height gives this model plenty of potential for a naturalistic tropical setup.

Depending on the species, you can build the enclosure using suitable substrate alongside cork, branches, vines, mosses and live or artificial plants, creating sheltered areas and climbing opportunities at different levels.

The 45cm depth is useful here too. It gives you room to create structure from front to back rather than arranging everything against the rear glass.

With some thought put into the hardscape and planting, the Terra Sky can become an attractive feature in its own right rather than simply somewhere to house the animal.

Suitable for a Variety of Setups

Repto describes the Terra Sky as a universal terrarium, but I wouldn’t translate that into a huge Shirley list of animals supposedly suitable for it.

Its proportions make it particularly useful where vertical space and climbing opportunities are important, but the enclosure still needs to match the animal’s adult size, behaviour, temperature, humidity, ventilation and UVB requirements.

A 60cm-tall terrarium is only useful to an animal if we’ve furnished and equipped it in a way that allows it to use that space properly.
