The Red Dwarf Gourami is a domesticated colour strain of Trichogaster fasciata. This small fish is a great addition as a centrepiece for smaller tanks, but you must be mindful of the gourami's territorial behaviour during breeding times. The tank should be planted to allow each gourami to have somewhere to hide if they need to. If males and females are kept together, the females should outnumber the males to avoid any single female being harassed relentlessly by the male. They do prefer to be at the lower end of the tropical temperature scale and will benefit from cooler winters. Flow should be gentle and access to the surface of the water should be clear as they are a labyrinth fish that can breather atmospheric air.
Food can be offered in the form of micro pellets and fresh or frozen fish foods.
