The Colourful Rainbow Dwarf Gourami is a beautiful species of gourami from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. It is a colour morph and as such will need the exact same care as all other dwarf gourami such as the Neon Blue and the Blood Red. They are far less aggressive than three spot gouramies can be and are perfectly fine in community aquaria. However, males can become quite aggressive towards one another during breeding times if the tank isn't big enough to support their individual territories. They will adapt to a very wide range of conditions but prefer a planted tank with slightly softer, more acidic water and gentle flow. If males and females are to be kept together, the females should outnumber the males and the aquarium needs to be big enough with plenty of hiding places for the females to be able to escape the male's advances when they need to.
These fish are labyrinth fish, which means they are able to breathe atmospheric air. A gap should be left between the surface of the water and the lid to allow the fish to access air on an elective basis. Gentler flow is also essential as Gouramies build their nests out of bubbles on the surface of the water.
Food should be offered in the form of micro pellets as well as fresh and frozen insect larvae such as bloodworm, daphnia and brineshrimp.
