To ensure optimal care for your pond fish, it is important to know the temperature in the pond, as many fish react depending on the water temperature and then require more or less food. The Pontec PondoThermo is a floating, waterproof pond thermometer with scales in °Celsius and °Fahrenheit. It is supplied with a 1.5 m long cord for attaching to the edge of the pond, so it's easy to find and retrieve. It requires no electricity whatsoever and as it is not digital, it will not need periodic calibration. It offers consistent accurate readings as an when required.

This thermometer is particularly important during the colder months when the temperature of the water will determine whether the fish should be fed and what they should be fed with. Similarly in spring, it will give the fishkeeper an idea of when it's time to start feeding again.

During the colder months, fish should be observed and fed only when they show interest in food. If the temperature of the water is 10°C or below, they should only be fed wheatgerm based food as protein is difficult to metabolise in low temperatures and can cause health problems for the fish if they are unable to digest it properly.
