The Platinum Convict Cichlid is the white variation of the classic Convict. This species should be kept in a larger tank of at least 4ft for a single pair. More space, along with plenty of hiding spaces and caves needs to be provided if several specimens or other cichlids are to be added. Convicts are quite an aggressive cichlid, especially when breeding. They will not hesitate to take on fish substantially larger than themselves when protecting eggs or fry and for this reason they are best kept in a species only set up. Though other central american cichlids can be housed with the convicts, few people have had success in the long term, so plan carefully before committing.
These entertaining fish can be quite prolific breeders. Provide them with plenty of caves, bog wood and other nooks and crannies to utilise as territories and nests. Substrate should be fine sand as they like to dig, but plants need to be robust as these fish are known for damaging them.
Food can be offered in the form of cichlid pellets as well as fresh or frozen fish foods.
