Oriental Sweetlips are a relatively peaceful large fish. It is worth noting that this species can reach up to 50cm in size and will require a very large, spacious tank with plenty of rock to hide in as well as open swimming space. They are largely peaceful towards their tank mates, but can be very territorial with their own kind. We recommend keeping only one. They are best kept with other larger peaceful fish as more boisterous tank mates tend to outcompete the sweetlips for food.

Some success has been reported with keeping this species in reef tanks, however there is still a risk that they may nip at certain corals and other invertebrates.
