Lysimachia nummularia Aurea – golden creeping Jenny

Lysimachia nummularia, commonly known as creeping Jenny or moneywort, is a vigorous low-growing perennial valued for its trailing stems, rounded coin-shaped leaves, and cheerful yellow flowers in late spring and summer. Ideal for pond margins, rain gardens, damp borders, and container displays, it quickly forms a lush mat that softens edges and brightens moist planting schemes. Its spreading habit makes it especially useful as a ground cover in reliably damp soil, where it adds colour, texture, and a graceful cascading effect over walls, baskets, and water features.

Key Features

  • Vigorous trailing perennial with rounded, coin-shaped foliage and bright yellow flowers
  • Excellent for pond edges, rain gardens, damp borders, containers, and hanging displays
  • Typically grows to around 5–10 cm tall while spreading 45–60 cm or more over time
  • Thrives in moist to wet soil and brings strong ground-covering performance in difficult damp spots
  • Produces a soft cascading effect over walls, containers, and water feature edges
  • Fast-growing and easy to maintain, though best monitored to keep its spread in check

Care Instructions

Grow Lysimachia nummularia in full sun to partial shade in moist, humus-rich soil, or position it near pond margins and other reliably damp areas. Water regularly to keep the soil consistently moist, especially in containers or during warm weather. Trim back excess growth as needed to maintain shape and prevent it from spreading beyond its allotted space, and divide clumps or rooted stems in spring or autumn if you wish to refresh or propagate the plant. In hotter locations, some afternoon shade can help keep the foliage looking its best.
