Long Nose Sturgeon 8-10"
The Long Nose Sturgeon or Siberian Sturgeon is one of the most primitive of fish available for ponds. They will grow 1-2m in length depending on food and space available and therefore need to be placed in a very large pond or lake. The water needs to be highly oxygenated, with fairly strong flow and the pond needs to be free of string algae and other growth that the fish may become entangled in. Compared to other Sturgeons and Sterlets, the long nose is relatively easy to keep with fewer health problems.
Sturgeon are bottom feeders and should be fed on sinking pellets and bloodworm as part of a high protein diet that reflects their natural one. Unlike most pond fish, this sturgeon is very hardy and active all year round, so it will need to be fed even during the winter. They Need to be housed in large ponds with perfect water quality as they are extremely sensitive to pollutants. Extra Oxygenation is essential in the summer. You will get an acclimation and care sheet with each shipment of fish and we strongly recommend that you use a white spot treatment when introducing new fish.
If you have any questions about keeping this fish, please contact us and a member of our friendly pond team will be able to advise you on best practice.
