The Lemon Tetra is a popular species of fish suitable for all kinds of community set ups. They are a mid sized, peaceful shoaling species that should be maintained in a group of 6 or more specimens alongside other peaceful fish. Generations of captive bred specimens have ensured that today’s Lemons available in shops are all able to adapt to a wide range of conditions and tend to be a very forgiving species. These fish are often overlooked in the shops as they often tend to be quite bland in colour until they are placed in a planted home aquarium. But once they colour up, they are one of the most beautiful fish for community tanks.

They can be kept with just about any community species, except for the smallest of nano fish, as well as a number of larger cichlids such as Oscars and Terrors. We recommend other South American species such as Angelfish, other Tetras, Rams and other dwarf cichlids, suckermouth catfish, cories and some of the more peaceful medium sized cichlids like Severums.

Food can be offered in the form of tropical pellets and fresh or frozen fish foods such as brine shrimp, daphnia and bloodworm.
