The Giant Danio is a peaceful shoaling species from Sri Lanka and India. It is a species that should be kept in groups of 6 or more specimens in a large aquarium. They are a very active species and require plenty of swimming space.
The Aquarium needs to large and well filtered with temperatures at the lower end of the tropical scale. Current needs to be fairly strong with plenty of oxygenation. The aquarium should be furnished with rocks, wood and plenty of plants than can tolerate the strong current. Water quality must be excellent and regular partial water changes are essential. A tight fitting lid is essential as all danios are accomplished jumpers.
Ideal tank mates include Rainbow Shiners, Hillstreat Loaches and any larger barbs and tetras that can tolerate a strong current. Avoid anything slow, skittish and long finned. Even though they are fairly peaceful, they can become boisterous during feeding times.
Food can be offered in the form of pellets, flakes and small meaty fish foods such as daphnia, bloodworm and brine shrimp.
