Dairy Cow Isopods

Dairy Cow Isopods (Porcellio laevis.) are one of the popular species of isopods owing their cute piebald pattern and to the fact that they're not particularly difficult to keep. This is a very beginner friendly species that can tolerate a very wide range of conditions and are among some of the best clean up crews for bioactive set ups as they have an immense appetite. They are a fairly active species that will make short work of waste in the terrarium, so it's best to add them to a more spacious set up to allow space for the isopods and plenty of food. High humidity in part of the terrarium is essential, but it shouldn't be too wet. Equally, there needs to be a dry part to the set up. This allows the isopods to regulate their temperature.
The Isopods don't necessarily need feeding if the enclosure is bioactive and contains plenty of waste for them to consume. Food can be offered in the form of leaf litter, assorted vegetables and for breeeding colonies we recommend offering protein sources such as dried minnows or dried mealworms. Their diet should be supplemented with calcium
Dairy Cow Isopods can be offered as a live food for a variety of reptiles and other species and carry the added benefit of a high calcium content. Use in tandem with Reptile Systems vit-a-min, Reptile Systems Calcium Ultra and Reptile Systems Insect Food to ensure that your pet's food is fully balanced and keeps them in the best condition possible,
