Why use pond paint?
Pond paint provides a durable waterproof coating for ponds, water features and aquariums while also improving their appearance. It is commonly used on concrete, rendered and masonry ponds where a traditional flexible liner may not be practical or desirable.
A quality epoxy pond paint helps create a waterproof barrier that protects the pond structure while providing a smooth, easy-to-clean finish. It can also be used during pond refurbishment projects to restore older ponds and water features that have become stained, discoloured or difficult to maintain.
Blue pond paint remains a popular choice because it creates a bright, clean appearance while helping fish and aquatic plants stand out more clearly beneath the water surface.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is pond paint safe for fish?
Once fully cured, epoxy pond paint is perfectly safe for fish. Fish should not be introduced until the paint is fully cured.
Can Pond Paint be used instead of a liner?
Flexible pond liners are generally better suited to irregular shapes and ponds built directly into the ground. Pond paint is designed for rigid structures such as concrete, rendered and masonry ponds where a durable waterproof coating is required.
Why use Blue Pond Paint?
This pond paint will not only form a waterproof seal, but also add a pleasant aesthetic value to the pond, making it appear cleaner and tricking the mind into thinking that the water is blue. Blue is particularly good for showcasing koi as the vivid markings of the fish really stand out against a blue background.
How long does pond paint last?
When applied correctly to a properly prepared surface, pond paint can last many years. Longevity will depend entirely on water conditions, UV exposure, surface preparation and general wear and tear.
Can it be applied to a damp surface?
Yes. Unlike many coatings, ASK pond paints can be applied to damp surfaces, making them ideal for use in projects where achieving a completely dry surface is very challenging.
