The Bamboo Shrimp is a large South Asian that’s great for any aquarium with medium sized fish and relatively strong flow. This shrimp feeds through fans located at the front of the body, collecting small particles of food and transferring them to their mouths. They are very peaceful and generally find a specific spot in the aquarium where they spend their days collecting food. Offering shade and hiding places with plants, wood and rock work will make them feel safe and secure.
As they are shrimp, it is imperative that the aquarium is mature and stable with good filtration. Like all shrimp, they are very sensitive to fluctuations in temperatures, so water changes should be carried out with that in mind. Treatments should also be checked to ensure that they are shrimp safe and do not contain copper. They are a social species that should be maintained in groups, though occasionally there may be territorial disputes over the best spots to perch on. This can be avoided by providing plenty of space and loots of hard scape in the places where the current is the strongest.
Fan Shrimps are excellent climbers, so a tight fitting lid is essential to ensure that they don’t escape. Food can be offered in the form of fine powders, though they will get a significant portion of their food from the water circulating in the aquarium.
