Description
Gamma Krill Superba 250g
Gamma Krill Superba 250g is a substantial frozen natural food containing Euphausia superba, a large species of Antarctic krill particularly well suited to medium and larger aquarium fish.
Unlike the chopped Krill Superba found in some smaller blister packs, this Gamma Slice contains the larger food in a format ideal for fish capable of taking a more substantial mouthful. It is an excellent choice for predatory species and larger omnivorous fish where smaller foods such as brine shrimp, mysis or Krill Pacifica can disappear rather quickly.
Krill Superba Fish Food for Larger Fish
Krill Superba is considerably larger than Krill Pacifica, making it particularly useful for fish with bigger mouths and appetites.
Its natural seafood aroma and meaty texture can encourage an enthusiastic feeding response, while its substantial size makes feeding larger specimens considerably more practical than trying to satisfy them with numerous tiny frozen foods.
Which Fish Can Eat Krill Superba?
Gamma Krill Superba is suitable for many medium and larger fish, including:
- Oscars and larger cichlids
- Larger marine angelfish
- Triggerfish
- Puffers
- Lionfish
- Wrasses
- Marine eels
- Larger catfish
- Other suitably sized carnivorous and omnivorous fish
Always match the size and quantity of food offered to the fish being fed.
Krill Superba vs Krill Pacifica
Although both are krill, they are not simply different names for the same food.
Krill Superba (Euphausia superba) is the larger of the two and is particularly useful for medium and large fish capable of handling substantial pieces.
Krill Pacifica (Euphausia pacifica) is naturally smaller, making it easier to feed to a wider range of small and medium-sized aquarium fish.
Having both available allows you to choose the most appropriate size of krill rather than simply feeding larger fish increasingly large quantities of a smaller food.
Why Feed Krill?
Krill provides a useful alternative to other meaty frozen foods such as prawn, mussel, cockle and whole fish.
Rotating different foods helps provide greater variety in flavour, texture and nutritional profile, particularly for carnivorous and omnivorous species that naturally consume a range of prey.
Krill also naturally contains carotenoid pigments, including astaxanthin, making it a popular addition to varied diets where maintaining natural fish colouration is important.
Gamma Irradiated Frozen Fish Food
Gamma frozen foods are rapidly packed, sealed and frozen before undergoing gamma irradiation as part of TMC’s food-safety process.
The 250g Gamma Slice format provides a generous quantity for fishkeepers regularly feeding medium and larger fish.
How to Feed Gamma Krill Superba
Remove only the amount required and defrost before feeding.
Offer an appropriate quantity according to the size and number of fish being fed. For smaller specimens, larger pieces can be broken or cut into more manageable portions if necessary.
Feed only as much as will be consumed within a few minutes and remove significant uneaten food promptly to maintain good water quality.
Use alongside other appropriate foods as part of a varied diet.
