Lythrum salicaria – Purple Loosestrife 1 Litre

Lythrum salicaria, commonly known as Purple Loosestrife, is a striking native marginal pond plant renowned for its tall spikes of vibrant magenta-purple flowers that bloom throughout summer. This elegant perennial adds bold vertical colour and natural beauty to pond margins, bog gardens, and wildlife planting schemes.

Flowering from mid to late summer, Lythrum salicaria produces dense flower spikes that rise above attractive lance-shaped green foliage, creating a dramatic display around the water’s edge. Its upright habit makes it perfect for adding height and structure to naturalistic pond planting while blending beautifully with other native aquatic species.

A superb wildlife-friendly plant, the nectar-rich flowers are highly attractive to bees, butterflies, hoverflies, and other pollinating insects, making it an excellent choice for biodiversity-focused gardens and wildlife ponds. The dense stems also provide valuable shelter for insects and amphibians around the pond edge.

This hardy British native thrives in shallow water and consistently damp soils, growing strongly in sunny positions where it will reward with masses of long-lasting summer flowers year after year. Despite its impressive appearance, it is easy to grow and requires very little maintenance once established.
