Description
NT Labs Barley Straw Pellets
NT Labs Barley Straw Pellets offer a simple and natural approach to controlling unwanted algae in garden ponds. Made from barley straw and completely free from pesticides, the pellets are designed to help prevent the growth of both green algae and blanket weed without relying on conventional chemical algae treatments.
Unlike loose barley straw, the pellet format is compact, tidy and extremely easy to use. Simply distribute the required quantity around the margins of the pond or place the pellets inside a pond planting basket and allow them to work naturally.
NT Labs Barley Straw for Natural Algae Control
Barley straw has long been used by pond keepers as a natural method of discouraging algae growth. NT Labs Barley Straw Pellets — also known as Algae Stopperz — provide the same approach in a convenient pellet form.
The treatment is particularly useful for pond keepers looking for a pesticide-free way to manage recurring green algae and blanket weed. It is designed primarily as a preventative treatment, helping to restrict new algae growth rather than acting as an instant treatment for an already heavily affected pond. NT Labs advises that the pellets generally begin working after approximately two weeks.
How to Use NT Labs Barley Straw Pellets
Sprinkle the pellets around the margins of the pond, where they will sink and gradually begin working. Alternatively, they can be placed inside a pond planting basket.
Use 100g for every 900 litres (200 gallons) of pond water. The 1kg pack therefore treats a pond of up to approximately 9,000 litres (2,000 gallons).
Repeat the treatment every two months until satisfactory control has been achieved. NT Labs then recommends adding one third of the normal dose each month for ongoing maintenance.
Using Barley Straw for Blanket Weed
For the best preventative control of blanket weed, NT Labs recommends using the pellets throughout autumn and winter so that they are already active when pond temperatures begin rising in spring.
If blanket weed is already established during summer, remove as much of it manually as possible before using the pellets to help discourage regrowth. Good pond oxygenation should be maintained while the product is being used.
