Twisted Vallis Bunch
Vallisneria Americana (Twisted Vallis) has thin, green twisted leaves and is a great mid-background plant. It is easy to keep and readily propagates via runners. They are great for hiding filters, heaters and other aquarium equipment. Highly recommended for beginners!
Size: Supplied at 8-15cm but can grow to 50+cm Optimum pH: 6 - 8.5 Lighting: medium to bright Temperature: 18-28 degrees celcius Difficulty: 1 (1 = Easy 5 = Difficult) Plant Arrangement: Mid-Background Bunched with a lead weight on the bottom to allow the plant to sit at the base of your aquarium.
When planting bunched plants, remove the weight and the foam attached and plant in good quality planting substrate. Small rocks and ornaments can be placed around the plant and pressed down gently to help keep the plant firmly in position until the roots have established and anchored the plant. Once the plant is settled and no longer trying to float, any objects used to anchor it can be removed.
Using proper planting substrate and good quality full spectrum lighting will improve the overall growth, health and longevity of all aquarium plants. The plants will in turn use more nutrients in the water and reduce algae growth as well as produce oxygen for the aquarium and its fish.
Strong lighting combined with iron rich fertiliser will ensure strong healthy growth and deep green colouration. Vallis reproduce by sending out a single runner on which a new plant will begin to grow. These can be detached from the mother plant and transplanted elsewhere.
