An evergreen non-native marginal aquatic perennial plant, which forms a clump of long narrow oar shaped leaves to 40cm in length. This plant can be seen dusted with white powder, and slender stems bearing purple flowers 2cm across. Although not carnivorous as such, this plant may trap and kill small insects such as hoverflies and small bees during the pollination process. Flowering occurs in the summer. Plant in shallower parts of the water margin. For best results, feed with fertiliser. This plant is quite tender, but it can be winter hardy if the roots are deep enough.
