The Green Spotted Puffer is a brackish water species from South East Asia. It is best kept as a species only set up as Pufferfish are quite aggressive. The aquarium should ideally be brackish with alkaline water and high KH. Though there is some debate on whether these fish are ok in freshwater, it has been noted that fish kept in brackish and marine conditions tend to live substantially longer and be healthier in general. Regular maintenance and good filtration are essential as these fish are largely carnivorous and produce a lot of waste.
Whilst it is not advised that these fish are kept together, they can be kept with their own kind. To achieve this, the puffers must be introduced into the aquarium at the same time as juveniles and they must all be roughly the same size.
Food can be offered in a variety of ways, from cockles and mussels, prawns and krill to pest snails that can be cultivated at home. Hard foods like this help grind down the puffer's teeth, which never stop growing. These fish will not take dry food.
