The Fuzzy Dwarf Lionfish is a naturally reclusive venomous species. They need to have shady areas to hide in during daylight hours with a decent flow. This species should not be kept with small fish and crustaceans as they will be eaten, but larger, more belligerent species will likely bully and outcompete the Fuzzy Dwarf Lion, so they are also not recommended.

It isn't unusual for juveniles to be shy and to only make an appearance when food is offered, but adults are far more confident and interactive. This species can usually be kept as a group as long as all members are introduced simultaneously and the tank is large enough to support each of them having somewhere to go to away from the others. Visual barriers can help a lot too.

This fish seldom shows aggression towards tank mates and con-specifics, so there are many options for tank mates. We recommend Butterflies, Angels, Tangs, Rabbitfish and some of the more relaxed large marine fish.
