The Chilli Rasbora is a very popular nano fish. It's one of the tiniest fish available in the hobby, growing to a maximum of 2cm and appears very similar to Phoenix Rasbora. They are often overlooked in shops by aquarists who don't know what they're looking at because of their size and because they're often very bland until they enter the home aquarium. Once settled, they'll turn bright red with a black central mark on the body. The aquarium should be planted, with soft, acidic conditions. It is recommended that the lighting is diffused with floating plants and/or tannins are added to the aquarium to reflect their natural habitat.

These rasboras can adapt to a surprisingly wide range of conditions and are even happy at the lower end of the temperature scale. The only thing to take into consideration is that they don't do well at high pH. They are renowned for being prolific breeders, with well conditioned adults spawning daily. However, whilst they don't predate on fry, they will most likely eat their own eggs shortly after spawning.

Ideal tank mates would be Sparkling Gourami, microrasboras, Ruby Tetras, Kuhli Loaches, Shrimp and pygmy cories.

Food can be offered in the form of micro crumb, nano pellets, flakes and fresh or frozen fish foods such as copepods and rotifers.
