51cm NND Showa Japanese Koi
Showa are one of the most popular varieties of Koi owing the their once rarity. They are often confused with Sanke, but the difference is quite simple. Both varieties are a Gosanke type with three distinct colours of red (hi), black (sumi) and white (shiroji). Showa have a black base with red and white patterning whilst Sanke has a white base with red and black patterning. The patterning itself is not as heavily scrutinised in Showa as it is in Sanke and should wrap around the whole body, even on the underside.
Nishikigoi Niigata Direct, or NND are a co-operative of three Koi breeders (Tanaka Makoto, Oomo Fujio, and Kobayashi) in Niigata, Japan. They are renowned for the high quality of their fish, particularly their Sensuke Kohaku and are the second largest Koi producer in Niigata. NND produce a wide range of koi varieties including Sanke, Shiro Utsuri, Yamabuki, Showa, Kohaku, Doitsu varieties and Kawarimono.
This beautiful specimen carries a perfect balance of all three colours of Showa. Markings are vivid and clear against the pearl white and nicely balanced in proportion. An Excellent addition to you collection.
