45cm Sakuma Sanke Japanese Koi

Taisho Sanke, or Sanke for short is the reverse of Showa. This is a white fish (Shiroji) with red (hi) and black (sumi) markings. The Hi and Sumi markings should not stretch below the lateral line and should be evenly distributed, with each taking about 30% of the length of the body. Of course, in juveniles, the Sumi is not yet fully developed and may take a few years yet to fully develop. The Hi should be vivid red and consistent in shade. The Sumi should be dark and deep in more mature fish, but may appear blue in younger specimens. Edges of the markings (Kiwa) should be crisp and defined.

This jumbo specimen is around 1 years old and shows excellent form with strong markings. A cracking Sanke from Sakuma and a load of potential. A lovely addition to any Koi collection!

A message form John Cook about Sakuma

"We started dealing with Sakuma San in the early 80’s his son Hajime now runs the show, together with his brother and Mum, who, even in her 80’s really looks after us when we visit. Sakuma are world renowned for their production of the Gosanke varieties, Showa, Kohaku & Sanke. Hajime came over to see is un the early 90’s together with Ogawa San and Narita San. We have built up an extremely good relationship with them over the past 45 years and they are always a must see when we go on buying trips to Japan."
