38cm Omosako Shiro Utsuri Japanese koi
Shiro Utsuri are one of the best loved varieties of koi. Their markings of white (shiro) on a black (sumi) body seem almost simplistic in comparison to the more complex Gosanke varieties. But perhaps it is the simplicity itself that draws the eye and the standards of the Shiro Utsuri allow for no imperfections. The Ideal specimen should have clear shiro markings with a crisp edge (Kiwa) and no bleeding between the shiro and sumi, but each staying distinct and separate. The shiro should be pure white with no discolourations and the sumi deep black. The split between the two colours should be around 50/50 and either colour exceeding 60% of the body is considered undesirable.
Omosako Koi Farm are one of the best known breeders of high quality Japanese Koi. Located in Hiroshima, they have won numerous prizes for their outstanding and highly sought after Shiro Utsuri. They are in fact the first to enter a Shiro Utsuri that won a grand prize at the All Japan Koi Show in 2013 and are still considered the best breeders of Shiro Utsuri in the world. Their second farm is for their Showa and they are now working diligently to produce a new Showa variety that possesses both the grand physique of the famous Dainichi Showa and the lustrous Sumi markings of the Omosako Shiro-Utsuri.
This beautiful specimen carries a perfect balance of shiro and sumi with both being evenly spaced out. Much of the sumi hasn't yet fully developed, but there's a lot of potential. Great head markings make this fish a fantastic addition to your collection.
