Glass Catfish are a fascinating species as they are indeed completely transparent, like the name suggests. They are a peaceful shoaling species that needs to be kept in a group of at least 6 individuals. They are one of the few species that can be observed whilst schooling (all fish consistently facing the same direction). Though they will eat very small species like chilli rasboras or fish fry, they are generally a shy and harmless species. The aquarium should be spacious and well planted to mimic their natural environment. Flow should be gentle to moderate with dim lighting. Floating plants can be used to diffuse the lighting. They will adapt to a wide range of conditions, but filtration needs to be efficient to avoid water quality issues.
Ideal tank mates would include mid-sized rasboras like harlequins, tetras, cherry barbs and smaller loaches like Kuhlis. Avoid large boisterous species that may spook the catfish.
They can be quite reluctant to accept dry foods, but fresh or frozen fish foods such as brine shrimp, daphnia, mosquito larvae and cyclops will be excellent food options and readily accepted.
