Iris Louisiana Black Gamecock - Louisiana iris
Black Gamecock is a tall slender plant with striking deep purple and black flowers. The flashes of yellow in the flower add drama whilst the long narrow leaves produce an air of elegance. This plant is a great choice for shallow water marginal planting and perform best in full sun or partial shade. Irises can make an excellent natural border around the edge of a pond and are very valuable as a source of shade for your fish and a refuge for semi aquatic wildlife.
Flowers are produced during the summer months and later produce seeds that can be transplanted elsewhere. Foliage is semi evergreen. As the plant is very tall, it may need to be planted in a larger basket after a couple of years. Like all Irises, this plant is a heavy feeder and should be given fertiliser from time to time.
